Taoiseach calls for recount in the North after “hugely disappointing” Sinn Féin success

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has called for a recount in the North after Sinn Féin’s stunning success in the local government elections last week.

The infamous brit-licker was speaking after Sinn Féin took an incredible 144 seats across the 11 councils, an increase of 39 councillors for the party.

Mr Varadkar told reporters today “Something’s not right here. Why would so many people vote for Sinn Féin when I explicitly told them not to? I’m calling for a recount. On the plus side of course, this result means that Fine Gael is now the largest Unionist party on the island of Ireland. So, every cloud.”

Mr Varadkar has been described by many in politics as Sinn Féin’s biggest asset because every time he condemns or tries to belittle them in any way, the party’s vote tends to increase significantly.

Most recently he was roundly criticised for using ‘very offensive language’ when just last weekend he described Sinn Féin as ‘politics for slow learners’. The Taoiseach however said people are overreacting.

“It has been suggested that I was in some way making fun of people with learning difficulties. That is an outrageous slur. Obviously I would never do any such thing. I was simply saying that anyone who votes for Sinn Féin must have learning difficulties. Glad I could clear that up.”
