Spanish tourists flock to Ireland for a week in the rain

The amount of tourists coming to Ireland from the south of Spain has gone up 800% in the last two weeks.

Ireland has also seen a surge in visitors from other parts of southern Europe that are currently experiencing their hottest summer on record.

Carlos Diaz From Cordoba in Spain is holidaying in Galway with his family and told us he’s loving every minute of it and couldn’t be happier.

“We got up early this morning and went for a walk because we could hear the rain beating off the window. We got absolutely drenched. It was heavenly. This is what I work all year for. To spend some quality time away in a cold country in the pissing rain. You people don’t know how lucky you are to live in Ireland.”

We also met Maria Lopez from Malaga who spends her summer holidays in Ireland every year.

“This is the best year yet.” she told us. “We only arrived yesterday and I’ve already been soaked four times. This place is paradise! I hope to retire here one day. Not dying of heat exhaustion when you go for a walk is a real plus in my book when looking for somewhere to settle.”

Meanwhile the Irish government has asked people here who have flights booked to areas affected by the current heatwave to consider cancelling their holiday plans.

People responded by telling the government to feck off and all flights to the south of Spain, Italy and Greece from Ireland this morning were absolutely jam packed to capacity. Bring on the sunstroke.
