Calls to bring back queuing outside record shops for concert tickets
There have been calls to bring back queuing up outside record shops for people looking to buy concert tickets.
Of course we’d have to bring back record shops as well so the chances of it happening are not great.
The calls come in the wake of Saturday morning’s online fiasco when thousands of Oasis fans tried in vain to buy tickets for next year’s 2 Croke Park concerts from the one and only available source, Ticketmaster.
Offaly County Councillor Barney Fitzmaurice said it’s time to take ticket sales away from price gouging internet companies.
“God be with the days when you’d start queuing the night before with a sleeping bag and a few cans of Bulmers. I did it myself outside The Record & Tape Centre in Tullamore when Michael Jackson played in Cork. Of course that was before we knew about all the quare stuff he was getting up to but that’s beside the point. The proper fans will put the effort in and get the tickets. And they’ll pay the proper price and not a penny more. Ticketmaster me hole.”
We asked Minister for Arts & Entertainment Paddy McCarthy if he thinks we should bring back queuing for tickets.
“Ah will you stop. Queues like that haven’t been seen here since the Celtic Tiger Crash dole queues of 2008. We need to embrace modern technology. There’s too many whingers in this country. Just ‘coz you have to pay €400 for an €80 ticket. It’s called progress. You’d think €400 was a lot of money the way some people are going on. I’d have that in me arse pocket most days.
“And don’t be whinging when you see photos of me backstage at Oasis either. I’m a genuine fan. I’ve been listening to the lads on the radio since Parklife so get over yourselves.”
