Ryanair introduce four-drink limit before flights for all pilots

Irish budget airline Ryanair has introduced a four-drink limit before flights for all of its 7,049 pilots.

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary told reporters at a press conference in Dublin this morning that the new rule comes into effect immediately.

“Most people won’t be aware of this but almost half of our pilots are actually scared of flying and like to calm their nerves with a few drinks before take off. It’s a big problem in the airline industry. But there’s absolutely no need to be drinking any more than four pints or four shots when you’re flying a plane full of people. Or four glasses of wine.”

We spoke to one Ryanair pilot who wishes to remain anonymous. He told us he’s not happy about the new four-drink limit and claims many of his colleagues feel the same.

“It’s not the flying I’m scared of it’s the landing. Sometimes when I’m landing a plane I can’t bare to look so I just close my eyes and hope for the best. If I can’t bring my flask of whiskey onboard with me I don’t think I’ll ever get behind an aeroplane steering wheel again. Or whatever those yokes are called.”

Mr O’Leary was asked if the four-drink limit also applies to Ryanair cabin crew.

“Ah no. There’s no need for that. They can get hammered if they want.”
