Sinn Féin confident of being voted into opposition again

With a general election looming, Sinn Féin leader Mary-Lou McDonald said her party is confident that they will be voted back into opposition again.

Miss McDonald was talking to reporters outside Leinster House this morning about the mood within the party as the electorate prepares to vote.

“We are confident we will be chosen by the people of Ireland to form the next opposition of this country and to keep the government, whoever that may be, on their toes at all times by only agreeing with some of the stuff they do.”

Sinn Féin have often been accused of being far more comfortable in opposition than they ever would be in government but Mary-Lou McDonald said that’s simply nonsense.

“That’s simply nonsense.” she said. “Sinn Féin wants to be in government and I believe I am ready to be Taoiseach. We have very clear goals and would work tirelessly day and night to improve the lives of all the people of Palestine.”

The date of the general election will be announced in the coming days.
