Athlone Town Agree To Join Breakaway European Super League

Athlone Town Football Club have confirmed that they have agreed to join the so called European Super League. The project is set to rival UEFA’s Champions League format which currently dominates European football.

A statement from the new group said “12 clubs from across Europe including the six biggest English clubs have now signed up as founding members. The others include the elite of European football such as Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Athlone.”

Athlone Town chairman Brian Molloy told us this morning that he understands the frustration being expressed by the smaller clubs of European football but said this is a great opportunity for the big guns to go up against each other on a regular basis.

“No offence to the Shamrock Rovers of this world but Athlone should be testing ourselves against clubs of similar stature like Manchester United and Barcelona. I know it’s exciting for fans of other League of Ireland clubs when Athlone come to town but they can watch us on telly now instead in the European Super League.”

Meanwhile Gary Neville has condemned the English clubs that signed up to join the new format and said they should have points deducted in the Premier League. We asked Gary if the same thing should happen to Athlone. He replied “What’s Athlone?”
