Airport Strike: England Team Stuck In Rome – Could Miss Semi-final

Airport workers at Rome International Airport, or to give it its really long Italian name Aeroporto Internazionale di Roma Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci, have suddenly and unexpectedly gone on strike, just as the England football team were about to board their flight back to London. England are due to play Denmark on Wednesday evening at Wembley in the Euro 2020 semi-final but could now miss the game.

Union spokesman Giuseppe Romano said the airport staff will not return to work until their demands are met and has called for both sides to sit down together but for some reason not until Thursday.

“There needs to be a meeting between both sides in this dispute and we think Thursday would be a good day for that meeting. No need to hurry things. I also have a very strong feeling everything will be resolved at this meeting and the airport staff will return to work that day.”

Italy play in the other semi-final against Spain, also at Wembley, on Tuesday but the Italian squad are already in London having flown out from the same airport in Rome yesterday. Ryanair have offered to send a plane to bring the England team home but the players took a vote and decided they’d rather miss the game.
