First ever sheep shagging contest proves hugely popular at National Ploughing Championship

A crowd of almost 80,000 people attended Day One of the National Ploughing Championships in Co. Offaly yesterday and for the first time they were treated to a sheep shagging contest.

There wasn’t even standing room available as adults and children alike piled into the sheep shagging tent from early morning to get the best seats with the best views.

Ireland’s most prolific sheep shaggers displayed their skills and techniques and battled it out to be crowned All-Ireland sheep shagging champion.

Taking the top individual title was PJ Kelly from Mayo who managed to shag 18 sheep in the allocated time of 30 minutes. Mick Duffy from Mayo took the silver medal and in third place was Paddy Delaney from Mayo.

In the relay event Mayo were crowned champions and there was a tie for second place between Leitrim and Mayo Minors.

PJ Kelly will now go on to represent Ireland at the World Sheep Shagging Championships in New Zealand next year.

You can watch back all the action from yesterday’s Sheep Shagging Contests on the National Ploughing Championships official YouTube channel.
