No protests or flotillas planned to support the people of Iran

There are no plans for protests on the streets of Dublin in support of the people of Iran and Greta Thundberg has no plans to join a flotilla to Iran because there are no flotillas sailing to Iran.

Iranians have taken to the streets in the biggest movement against the Islamic republic’s brutal regime since 1979 as authorities there enforced an internet blackout as part of a crackdown that has left hundreds dead, though the actual number may be much higher.

Tensions have been high in Tehran since 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was beaten to death by the morality police for allegedly wearing her hijab improperly. Several other young women have disappeared after suffering a similar fate.

Iran’s economy is collapsing as the price of basic items like milk and bread has soared leaving many people unable to feed their families.

A combination of these things and many others have forced the people of Iran to take to the streets in protest. However, that’s clearly not enough to get the people of the West to take to the streets in protest.

We asked People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy why his party appears to be silent on what’s happening in Iran.

He told us “Free Palestine! Israel is a terrorist state. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free. Death to America!”

Okay. Greta Thundberg was also asked today if she plans to sail a flotilla to Iran to support the people there.

She replied “God no. That could be dangerous. You know how I always say I’m not afraid of Israel, right? Well that’s because they just feed us and put us on a plane home. I don’t think the Iranians would do the same. I may like being on the news but I’m not stupid.”
