Leo Says No Foreign Holidays Until August, Or Maybe July, Or September, No Idea Really
August is the earliest the country could see a return to international travel. Or maybe July if we’re lucky. Or September if we’re not. Or possibly an entirely different month altogether. That’s according to Tánaiste Leo Varadkar who was asked when people can expect to be allowed to travel abroad for non-essential purposes such as holidays.
“A lot can go wrong between now and August. A lot can go right too. Things change. People change. Hairstyles change. Interest rates fluctuate. I don’t have a crystal ball so I don’t know what’s around the corner. All I can tell you is that you’ll be allowed to go on a foreign holiday some time later this year. Or maybe next year.”
Mr Varadkar said the EU digital green cert will be in place by June but said member states will have six weeks to adopt it. He also hinted that travel to the UK will be first to open up.
“It is my fervent hope and ambition that we can restore the Common Travel Area with Britain very soon. What I can say with absolute certainty is that we will restore that at some point this summer or autumn. Or possibly winter. You have my word on that. Although it might be spring.”
