Jeffrey Donaldson Invited To Easter Rising Commemoration & Wolfe Tones Concert
In the afternath of the invitation sent to President Michael D Higgins to attend a service in Armagh that will celebrate the creation of the Irish border, Democratic Unionist Party leader Jeffrey Donaldson has now been invited to attend next year’s Easter Rising commemorations in Dublin.
Donaldson, who refused to attend the centenary commemorations in 2016, said yesterday that he can’t understand why the President of Ireland would not want to celebrate the partition of Ireland.
The DUP leader will be invited to read out the Proclamation of Independence on the steps of the GPO on Easter Sunday before visiting the graves of several prominent Irish patriots at Glasnevin Cemetery.
After the ceremony, he will be taken on an open top bus tour around Dublin to see the sights of his capital city. Mr Donaldson and his entourage will then end their day with front row seats at a specially arranged Wolfe Tones concert in Kilmainham Gaol.
