Dublin’s Moore Street set for revamp

Dublin City Council have revealed plans to have Moore Street in the centre of town completely revamped.

Home to the famous Moore Street Market, it’s a must see area for visitors who like to leave the usual tourist trail and experience the real Africa.

However, chief city planner Anthony Breslin said Moore Street has been neglected in recent years and needs to be brought up to date.

“There’s still a couple of shop units that aren’t phone repair shops and they just don’t blend in so they’ll become phone repair shops obviously.”

What about the campaign to save Moore Street from demolition, where local people are fighting for the conservation and appropriate renovation of the historic 1916 Rising battleground?

“The heroes of 1916 gave their lives so that the people of today could get their phones repaired in peace so we have that building earmarked for a phone repair shop.”

Mr Breslin said the revamp will be completed by the end of this year when there will be an opening ceremony and the official renaming of Moore Street to Phone Repair Shop Street.
