Man Who Moved Here For 10 Times Higher Wages Shocked Everything’s 10 Times Dearer

A man who moved to Ireland for 10 times the salary he was making in his home country has told of his shock that everything here is 10 times dearer.

Marek Bartos came here from Bulgaria after realising how much higher the average industrial wage is in Ireland. He planned to work in a factory for 2 years and then retire as a millionaire. However, he hadn’t researched the cost of living and soon realised he’d be spending every penny he earned just to get by and probably wouldn’t be buying a 10-bedroom mansion in Dalkey with sea views for €5,000 as planned.

“My first night here I went to McDonalds for food. A medium Chicken McNugget Meal with McFlurry cost me one month wages. What the fuck? This is not fair. Surely as a Bulgarian living in Ireland I should be allowed Bulgarian cost of living with Irish salary, no?”

So is Marek going to try living somewhere else now that he’s seen the cost of living in Ireland?

“No. I just went to social welfare and pretended I have a disability and loads of kids. They check nothing, lol. Now I make 20 times more. What a country!”
