A local man has shared a Facebook post of a woman who has gone missing from her home in Chicago in the USA. Wayne Bracken from Kildare has never been to America and has no friends, Facebook friends or friends of friends living there. He also has no intention of ever going there and probably couldn’t find it on a map.
Wayne has also recently shared posts of a teenager missing in Belgium, a cat that went missing in Mexico and a bike that was stolen from outside a house in Uganda. Peter Jenkins from Facebook says they’re seeing a lot more of these completely pointless posts lately.
“Facebook can be a great platform to get an urgent appeal out to a lot of people really fast. Unfortunately it can also be a great platform for people like Wayne to make themselves out to be some kind of hero. In reality of course when you post stuff like this your friends just shake their heads and think ‘What a gobshite!'”
Wayne on the other hand is adamant he’s doing the right thing.
“I’m just doing my bit to help others. It only takes a second to share a post and I would ask my Facebook friends to share all my posts when they see them. If everyone was more like me the world would be a better place and there would be no wars, homeless people or bushfires.”
