NPHET Says People Drinking In Pubs Must Wear Their Mask Between Mouthfuls

NPHET has said that people drinking in pubs should have to wear a face mask between mouthfuls. Regulations will be published later today ahead of Monday’s reopening of indoor dining but NPHET’s Dr Ronan Glynn said he has his own ideas on how things should work in pubs.

“After drink has entered the mouth, people should immediately pull their mask back up before swallowing. They should only lower their mask again after their glass has been raised all the way up to the mouth in preparation for the next mouthful.”

The group set up to advise the government duing the pandemic has been widely criticised in the past for their over the top recommendations and show no signs of changing any time soon.

“I’m also advising the government that pubs should be allowed to serve only one customer per day.” Dr Glynn added. “Let’s not encourage talking and laughing and all that malarkey. People need reminding that things are still terrible and will remain terrible for a long time to come. If that customer happens to leave after just one drink, so be it. You’ve had your one customer and you’re done for the day.”

We asked Dr Glynn if he thinks Ireland can get back to the way things were any time soon.

“I really hope so. International travel has started again so please God we’ll soon have a fourth wave and get to close everything down again like last year. I long for those days. Nothing would make me happier.”
