Taoiseach Asks Queen To Dissolve Parliament As Election Campaign Begins

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has asked the Queen of England to dissolve parliament so the general election can officially begin. Mr. Varadkar flew to London this afternoon and went straight to Buckingham Palace where he was hoping to have a private meeting with the Queen.

Unfortunately for the Taoiseach he didn’t get past the main gates and security guards eventually had to tell him if he didn’t go away he’d be arrested.

Mr. Varadkar refused to leave, telling the Palace’s head of security “Don’t you know who I am? I’m the Prime Minister of Ireland and I’ve come to the mainland to see her Majesty.”

The Taoiseach was last seen being escorted onto a plane at Heathrow Airport after being put on a security watch list and served with a restraining order which states he cannot come within 2 miles of the Queen for the next 5 years.
